The Hussars

Wild Bill Wilder

North of Anju, November 5th, 1950, 0600 Hours

On November 5th, a full scale attack by the Chinese threatened the bridgehead near Chongchon.

On that same day, the Chinese 39th Division crossed over a huge hill separating the 19th and the British and hit the 27th Brigade on its left flank. Their plan was to take the bridge crossing the river and cut off the British, which would allow them to be destroyed at their leisure. They rolled into the valley and attacked the US 61st Artillery Battalion, firing in support of the Commonwealth Brigade. The cannons were protected by Company A of the Argyll Battalion. The fighting became intense as the Chinese just kept coming. One Chinese demolition team was killed to the last man when they had gotten with fifty feet of the bridge. download
